The Tenement House

An authentic time capsule of life in early 20th-century Glasgow

Things to do

Self-guided tours

From the black horsehair chairs, scrubbed kitchen range, household medicines and the recess beds to the working doorbell and gaslights, there’s so much to discover in this treasure trove of everyday history.

Expert guides are on hand to answer your questions and point out interesting items.

The current fashion exhibition gives further insight into Miss Toward’s life, as well as that of her mother, who worked as a dressmaker.

Children’s activities

Children will enjoy playing with authentic household items at the handling table (and working out what they were used for) as well as taking quizzes around the house.

School visits

We welcome school visits at the Tenement House. For more information, please see our Learning pages.
