House of Dun & Montrose Basin Nature Reserve

William Adam’s Georgian house places Baroque extravagance in a spectacular natural setting

Things to do

Guided tours

Guided tours of the house run every 45 minutes and last around 1 hour 15 minutes. Our tours are unique – we’ll take you through 250 years of history and introduce the main features and characters who played a part in the story of the house. You’ll see many items of interest on your tour – please feel free to ask your guide for more information.

We recommend buying a guidebook, which has an abundance of information on the family and estate, along with a pull-out map of the grounds.

Children's activities

There are quizzes for children in the house. Outside, there are picnic areas in the courtyard and the grounds, along with a play park.

Walks

Various walks can be enjoyed within the grounds and of course at Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, which is part of the wider estate. Look out for red squirrels, otters, badgers, buzzards, roe deer and, if you’re lucky, maybe ospreys.
