The Hermitage

Enchanting forest, magical waterfalls and secluded folly
Autumn at the Hermitage

A place of outstanding beauty and breathtaking views, with towering Douglas firs and lush foliage, rushing rivers and tumbling waterfalls, the Hermitage evokes romance, mystery and legendary tales.

Choose your favourite spot in this woodland idyll, whether on the historic arched bridge spanning the River Braan or in a secluded glade, and you’ll truly feel blessed by Mother Nature, under the cathedral-like canopy of some of Scotland’s tallest and grandest trees.

Overlooking the dramatic Black Linn waterfall, Ossian’s Hall is an 18th-century folly built for the 2nd Duke of Atholl. It offers an all-weather location for small ceremonies and celebrations and, from the balcony, boasts stunning views of the river twisting and cascading downstream.

Well-maintained paths provide excellent access throughout the Hermitage. All-ability access is available to Ossian’s Hall and, by prior arrangement, your guests can travel as far as the Hall by car or horse-drawn carriage.

There’s a wide range of accommodation and restaurants in nearby Dunkeld and Birnam, with additional capacity available within 15 miles, at Perth and Pitlochry.
