Glenfinnan Monument

Moving tribute to those who died fighting the Jacobite cause, framed by dramatic Highlands scenery

Things to do

Self-Guided Tour

More recently, the wild landscape around Glenfinnan has been adopted by the Harry Potter films. Head along the path to the viewpoint for the Glenfinnan viaduct, where you may be lucky enough to see the steam train rushing through.

Have your camera ready when you arrive at Glenfinnan – photo opportunities abound!

Guided Tours

Take a guided tour to the top of the monument and be rewarded with views that sweep across the mountains out to Loch Shiel. The monument was designed by James Gillespie Graham, who also designed part of Edinburgh’s New Town.

Wander through the visitor centre’s excellent exhibition to learn about the ’45, before stepping outside. Imagine the feelings coursing through the clansmen as they stood in these awe-inspiring surroundings alongside hundreds of other Jacobites, ready to rise.
