Ben Lawers 75th Anniversary Photography Competition – Terms & Conditions

Entering the competition

1. The Ben Lawers 75th Anniversary Photography Competition (the ‘Competition’) is open to anyone living in the UK (‘you’).

2. To enter the Competition, you must submit an original photograph taken at Ben Lawers or of its surrounding landscape that celebrates the natural beauty of the area. Photographs should be entered under one of the following categories: Flora, Wildlife, Landscape, Archaeology, Enjoying the Hills, or Young Photographers (for all entrants under the age of 18). The Young Photographers category can feature photographs of any subject listed above and will be judged separately.

3. You can enter the Competition by uploading your photograph as a comment on a relevant Facebook post from the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve NTS page, or by uploading your photograph to your own Facebook post and including the hashtag #BenLawers75. You are responsible for the cost and process of submitting your Competition entry to us.

4. If you are selected as a winner, you must provide us with your name and email address – or, if you are under 18, those of your parent or guardian. This information will be used solely in relation to the Competition and will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We will not retain this information longer than necessary.

5. You may submit multiple entries to the Competition. There is no maximum number of entries allowed per person.

6. We must receive your entry by 11.59pm on Sunday 3 August 2025.

7. Employees or agents of the National Trust for Scotland (‘the Trust’, ‘we’/‘us’), its group companies or their family members may not enter the Competition

Picking the winners

8. A panel of judges from the Trust, as well as acclaimed nature photographer Laurie Campbell, will review all entries and select one winner in each of the six categories: Flora, Wildlife, Landscape, Archaeology, Enjoying the Hills and Young Photographers. From these six category winners, the panel will also select two overall winners, who will receive an additional prize.

9. Entries will be judged on their creativity, visual impact and how well they capture the essence of Ben Lawers.

10. The panel’s decisions will be made by Friday 15 August 2025 and are final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Publishing the winning entries

11. The winning photographs will be featured in an online gallery hosted on the National Trust for Scotland website and may be shared across the Trust’s digital channels.

12. You will retain the copyright to your photograph.

13. By entering the Competition, you grant the Trust:

  1. permission to publish your photo on its digital and print platforms, and a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to reproduce the image for purposes connected to the Competition;
  2. the right to use your name, age (if under 18), and town or city of residence to credit you as the photographer.

Getting consent from an adult

14. Entering the Competition implies acceptance of these Terms & Conditions. If you are under 18, you must enter under the Young Photographers category and check with your parent or guardian before entering.

15. For the winner of the Young Photographers category, the Trust will require written consent (including via email) from a parent or guardian to publish the photograph and credit the entrant.

16. If such consent is not received, the prize may be awarded to another eligible entrant.

The prize

17. Winners in each category will have their image featured in the official Ben Lawers 75th Anniversary online gallery on the National Trust for Scotland website. Two overall winners, selected from the six category winners, will also receive a free place on a photography workshop led by Laurie Campbell, taking place on Sunday 5 October 2025 at The Big Shed, Tombreck, Lawers, Aberfeldy, Perthshire PH15 2PB.

18. If a winner does not provide the required contact details within 7 days of notification, the Trust reserves the right to select another winner.

19. Prizes cannot be transferred, exchanged or redeemed for cash. The workshop places are non-transferable and must be used by the winning entrants only. Travel, accommodation and expenses are not included.

Some other rules

20. Entries must be your original work and not infringe on the rights of any third party. You may not submit on behalf of others or collaborate on a submission. You will indemnify the Trust against any claims resulting from such a breach.

21. We accept no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete or cannot be uploaded for technical or other reasons.

22. No purchase is necessary.

23. The Competition is promoted by the National Trust for Scotland, Broadstone, 50 South Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh EH12 9LD. Any complaints should be sent to this address.

24. Nothing in these Terms excludes the Trust’s liability for death, personal injury, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation arising from its negligence.

25. The Trust accepts no responsibility for damage, loss or disappointment suffered by any entrant as a result of participating in the Competition or accepting a prize.

26. The Trust may suspend or amend the Competition at any time without notice. Its decision in all matters is final.

27. The Trust is not liable for any failure to fulfil obligations due to events beyond its control, including (but not limited to) natural disasters, strikes or unforeseen legal restrictions.

28. The Competition is governed by Scots law.
