Join us for a beautiful autumn walk at a number of our places in Wester Ross.

Overview

Running from Sat 11 to Sat 18 October, Walktober takes in a range of walks across Wester Ross.

Participating places

Balmacara Estate

The Crofts and Coast walk explores Drumbuie and Duirinish. 
It will run from 10am–1pm; please meet at Duirinish Station.

The Discover Scotland’s Rainforest walk explores the Coille Mhòr.
It will run from 10am–1pm; please meet at the Balmacara Square car park.

  • Donations are welcome for both walks.

Corrieshalloch Gorge NNR

The woodland walk follows the trail from the Gateway to Nature Centre. It’s 1km to the Victorian suspension bridge and the Falls of Measach. 

Our tours typically take between 45 mins and 1 hour. 

The trail is a little rough and undulating, but is described as easy.

  • There is no charge for the tours but donations will be gratefully received on the day.

Kintail

Falls of Glomach guided walk
Sunday 12 October, 10am–4pm

Join the Kintail ranger on a strenuous hillwalk to see one of Scotland’s highest waterfalls and enjoy breathtaking views over remote countryside in its full autumn glory. Find out about the history of the area, including ghostly apparitions, whilst in the midst of roaring red deer in rut.
This walk is 6 miles/9km and includes 600m/2,000ft ascent.
The meeting place and further information will be given at the time of booking; transport will be provided for part of the way. 

  • Booking is essential – adult £30, child (age 10+) £5

Battle of Glenshiel guided walk
Monday 13 October, 2–4pm 

Come and learn about the ’Little Jacobite Rising’ of 1719 and the dramatic battle that brought it to an end. Find out about Spanish, Dutch and Swiss involvement and the archaeological remains that make this breathtaking site unique in Scotland today.
The route will involve a short but steep walk over rough and hilly terrain.  
The meeting place and further information will be given at the time of booking.

The Falls of Glomach by Glen Elchaig in the Scottish Highlands

Torridon 

Fasaig on Foot
Wednesday 15 October, 10am

Join Trust ranger Rory Shannon on a leisurely loop of the historical village of Fasaig. As well as enjoying the spectacular scenery, we will visit the Deer Museum and feed a red deer herd, spot the local wildlife, discover Am Ploc open-air church, say hi to the Highland Cows, skim stones on the shoreline of Upper Loch Torridon and visit Doire nam Fuaran (the main settlement in Torridon before the Highland Clearances). 
This walk will take 2–3 hours and covers approx. 5km. 
Meet at Torridon Stores & Café for a 10am start. 
Sturdy walking shoes and waterproofs are recommended.

  • This walk costs £20pp. 

Beinn Dearg shielings through Coire Mhic Nobuil
Saturday 18 October, 10am

Join Trust ranger Rory Shannon on a hike into Coire Mhic Nobuil to visit the Beinn Dearg shielings. Along the way we will discover the history of Torridon and the geology of its mountains. From the path, impressive waterfalls can be seen and even the remains of an old curling ice rink. 
This walk is a 7km (3hrs approx.) return route along a flat but rocky path. 
Meet at the Coire Mhic Nobuil car park for a 10am start. 
Sturdy walking boots, waterproofs and snacks/drinks are recommended.

  • This walk costs £30pp.
