Plant a Memory

Plant a Memory is a unique way to celebrate the life of your loved one. For every £20 donation, we’ll send you a pack of Scottish heather seeds to plant at home in your loved one’s memory. Your donation will help us continue to look after the plants and flowers that flourish in the breathtaking landscapes in our care.

Memorial tree plantings

We know many people wish to celebrate the life of a loved one by supporting the planting of trees across Scotland. If you would like to enquire about tree planting projects, please contact Hannah Ennis on hennis@nts.org.uk or 0131 458 0342 to discuss the options available.

Please note that we are not able to place plaques, naming signs or engravings alongside our tree plantings.

Memorial benches

If you are interested in arranging a bench in memory of a loved one, please contact Hannah Ennis on hennis@nts.org.uk or 0131 458 0342 to discuss the options available.

Please note that we are only able to place benches at properties where additional benches are required and we are not able to place plaques, naming signs or engravings alongside our benches.

In-memory collections

You may wish to support our charity with a collection in honour of your loved one. If you would like to pay in a collection, you can do so online or by post.

If by post, we ask that a cheque is sent instead of cash. You may also wish to organise a collection via JustGiving or MuchLoved.

Can I set up a monthly gift in memory?

We would be extremely grateful to receive a monthly gift made in memory of your loved one. You can set up a monthly donation online or you can contact us on hennis@nts.org.uk or 0131 458 0342 to set one up.

How will my donation be spent?

Your donation made in memory of your loved one will be spent where the conservation need is greatest at the landscapes, buildings, collections and wildlife in our care. If you would like your donation to go to a specific area of our work, please email hennis@nts.org.uk or call 0131 458 0342 to discuss your wishes.

Can I support your work from outside the UK?

Yes. We know Scotland’s nature, beauty and heritage is loved by many and we welcome donations from supporters all over the world.

Please note that we are not able to send our Plant a Memory seeds outside the UK.

Why am I not able to place a plaque alongside a bench or tree planting?

This was a very difficult decision for us to make, as we know how much a plaque can mean to our supporters. However, due to the increase in requests for plaques, it has become necessary for us to restrict their use at our places.

We do always strive to share the exact location of benches and trees planted, so that supporters are able to easily visit the site and remember their loved one.

Can I scatter my loved one’s ashes at a National Trust for Scotland place?

If you would like to scatter the ashes of your loved one at one of our properties or landscapes, please get in contact with us beforehand. In some locations, the scattering of ashes can be detrimental to the biodiversity of our spaces and therefore we do not allow it.
Please email hennis@nts.org.uk with your enquiry.
