At a glance
There is level access to the ground floor, which includes the Reception Area, toilets and a view of the dungeon.
Due to the nature of the building, there is no access for wheelchairs to the upper floors. Access to the upper levels of the building and the roof walk is through a series of staircases, including the Great Hall (1st floor), Charter Room (2nd floor), Solar Room (3rd floor) and Roof Walk.
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout on a lead or under close control. There are water bowls set out within the garden. Dogs are welcome to use our green space freely, provided their owner takes responsibility for them and any waste.
There is a good reception in each room of the tower and the roof walk. Some areas in the spiral staircase do not have consistent reception.
Visual
Information on the property is available in print at the reception area.
There is an audio-visual presentation available on the ground floor describing the history of the tower and showcasing some aspects of the different floors. It does not provide a full description of the property, but staff can support with any further queries.
Sensory
There is a background music track for the ground floor, which is played at a very low level.
There is one highlander figure/mannequin on the solar floor to the right of the entrance to the room in a window arch.
The property is typically a quiet, uncrowded environment, although the staff recommend a Monday (apart from bank holidays) for the calmest experience. Visitors can leave, and come back later the same day or another date agreed with staff if they feel tired or overstimulated during their visit.
