On our quiet days, the wheel stops (and that’s a good thing!).
We’ve introduced a monthly ‘quiet day’ at Preston Mill. On the last Sunday of each month, we pause the mill machinery, allowing visitors to explore the mill buildings in a relaxed atmosphere, free from distracting noise and movements.
Another benefit of our ‘quiet days’ is that they make it easier for visitors with hearing impairments to enjoy the stories shared by our volunteer tour guides without the interference of loud machinery. We also provide a portable induction loop for our tour.
With the machines at rest, we can safely perform maintenance, greasing, and oiling while they are not operating. This allows us to showcase conservation efforts while caring for the machinery at Preston Mill.
