We have set up a pre-booking system to make your tour around the house easier and safer. Ticket numbers are capped each day, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
We strongly advise that you pre-book before travelling. If you do not pre-book, we cannot guarantee entry to the house.

Facilities & access
Visitor reviews of accessibility can be found on the Euan’s Guide website.
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
Wheelchair users can make use of the dedicated parking spaces 30m from the visitor centre, or you can be dropped off at the archway entrance to the visitor centre.
Bike racks are available.
- The visitor centre, shop, café and toilets are all on one level.
- Prams, pushchairs and baby back carriers are not allowed in the house for conservation and safety reasons.
- There’s an all-ability path in part of the water garden woods.
Where can my dog go?
We welcome dogs in large parts of the grounds, including the woodland, field parameters and fields in Lodge Park.
Our 86-acre estate is the perfect place to explore with your four-legged friend. However, please bear in mind that we have working farm fields on the estate. Please keep your dog on a lead if agricultural equipment is being used in the fields.
Well-behaved dogs on a short lead are welcome in the shop and in the playpark (dogs must remain around the picnic benches in the playpark).Within the gated visitor area, Stables courtyard and café, dogs must be on a short lead.
Where can’t my dog go?
We allow assistance dogs only in the house and main café. Please make sure your assistance dog is wearing their identity harness.
What do I need to be aware of at Newhailes Estate?
Pick up after your pup: bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.
Keep a lookout: for information signs and vehicles or machinery on site.
Be aware: not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.
Clearing up
Please help to keep the estate lovely by picking up after your dog. There are waste bins located in the car park, at both entrances and inside the gated visitor area.
Facilities available for my dog
We have water bowls outside the café and playpark. Dogs are welcome inside the café on a short lead, and there is also outdoor seating by the café within our Stables courtyard.
Car park
There’s very little shade in our car park, so please don’t leave your dog in the car on a hot day. Don’t forget – you can take your dog into most of the grounds and across the estate, so there’s no need for them to miss out.
Parking is £3 per day per vehicle for non-members (charges apply at all times). Free parking is available for members with a valid car parking sticker.
Picnic tables are provided near Weehailes Playpark and near the stable block.
Weehailes, our adventure play park, has been specially developed for younger children and is themed on the Newhailes story.
Weehailes is designed for children aged 3–12 but children aged 0–15 are admitted.
All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 16 or over. An adult can supervise up to 6 children. We can admit a maximum of 2 adults per child.
Please see maps on National Trust for Scotland signs or ask a member of staff for information on walking routes around the estate.
- The house is unsuitable for wheelchair access due to the historic layout of the property.
- The visitor centre, shop, café and toilets are all on one level.
