Linn of Tummel

Charming riverside walk in the heart of Big Tree Country

Planning your visit

A lovely woodland walk from Killiecrankie along the old military road (approximately 1½ miles) will lead you to Linn of Tummel.

Please note that we don’t allow any open fires or BBQs at Linn of Tummel at any time of year, to help us protect the beautiful woodland. If you are wild camping, please only use a small gas stove – unless it is during a period of high wildfire risk, when we ask that stoves are not used either. Thank you for your support in helping us to look after this very special place.

For more information about planning your visit, please see the drop-down facilities below or our frequently asked questions.

If you’d like to speak to us, we can be contacted by email: killiecrankie@nts.org.uk or telephone 01796 473233.

Facilities & access

  • Access to the Trust’s path is via steps from the Garry Bridge car park or steps at Coronation Bridge (the suspension bridge).
  • The footpath is uneven in parts with slopes, steps and narrow sections, as well as steep river banks alongside the path in several areas.

We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.

We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.

Dogs welcome

Our 3-mile circular path makes the most of the vistas. Walk across the suspension bridge over the Tummel, then take in the excellent views of Killiecrankie from the Garry Bridge – or step below and watch the brave people bungee from the bridge.

Admire the obelisk, which commemorates a visit by Queen Victoria in 1844.

If you’d like to explore further, our circular walk links in with several others on the Pitlochry Paths Network.
