Teachers – can you help us improve our learning webpage?

We’re carrying out some research in June into how we can improve the Learning section of our website.

We are offering a £25 Love2Shop voucher for every teacher selected to participate as a small thank you for your time and expertise.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a small group of teachers currently teaching in Scotland, specifically:

  • Primary teachers (P1–P7)
  • Secondary teachers (S1–S6), focusing on subjects including History, Social Studies and Art and Design
  • ASN specialist teachers

How can I participate?

Email learning@nts.org.uk by Sunday 8 June with the following information:

  • What type of school you work in (eg Primary, Secondary, EP Unit, etc)
  • For secondary teachers, the subject(s) you teach
  • What year group(s) you teach
  • Where in Scotland you teach
  • Whether you teach in a state, independent or other kind of school

Please note that we are aiming to work with a small, representative group of teachers. This means that we may not be able to work with everyone who is interested in taking part. We appreciate your understanding and will be in touch to let you know if you have been selected and with further details as soon as we can.

What is the time commitment?

  • We are aiming to send out the testing link in the week beginning 16 June and it will remain live until the end of June.
  • The testing should take approximately 40 minutes, plus some email communication before and after the test.

What’s involved?

  • You’ll be asked to test elements of the Learning section of our website and provide feedback on your experience.
  • You’ll be sent a link to do the testing, allowing you to do it on your own device whenever is convenient – no appointment will be needed. All you need is a reliable internet connection and the ability to join an online call (with working microphone).

Why participate?

  • This is an opportunity to shape the future of our online learning offer at the National Trust for Scotland. Your feedback will directly influence the development and improvement of the Learning section of our website.
  • Every participating teacher will receive a £25 Love2Shop voucher as a small thank you for your time and expertise.

What is the research focus?

Your insights will be invaluable in helping us to identify any barriers and ways we can improve the Learning section of our website. We’re committed to using your feedback to create learning webpages and resources that are as effective and user-friendly as possible.

Personal data

We’re using a third-party provider to help support our research, but they will receive no personal data about you (no names, contact details or details of where you’re from or where you work). Your feedback on our website will be completely anonymous.

Anything you share in your response to this email will not be shared outside of the Trust. You can find out more information about how the Trust uses and processes data under Surveys and Feedback

Teachers’ CPD Session: Bring history to life with Miss Cranston’s Classroom

Location: Mackintosh at the Willow, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

Dates: Tuesday 17 June & Monday 1 September 2025

Time: 4–5.15pm

Join us for a unique CPD opportunity that brings learning to life through Living History. Hosted at the iconic Mackintosh at the Willow, this hands-on session introduces you to Miss Cranston’s Classroom – a brand-new immersive learning experience designed for P4–P7 pupils – supporting learning across Social Studies, Literacy, Numeracy and Expressive Arts, while also encouraging teamwork, confidence and creativity.

The CPD session allows you to step into the shoes of your pupils and take part in the experience yourself. You’ll meet Miss Kate Cranston, the formidable and inspiring Glasgow businesswoman behind the historic tea rooms, and find out what your learners can expect when they visit her 1903 training classroom.

Two school children and an adult in fancy dress sit at a table set for afternoon tea

During the session, you will:

  • Take part in an immersive taster of Miss Cranston’s Classroom, just like your pupils would
  • Explore the only remaining Mackintosh-designed tea room in the world, with cross-curricular links covering Social Studies, Literacy, Numeracy and Expressive Arts
  • Learn how the experience supports CfE outcomes, active learning and creativity in the classroom
  • Gain practical ideas and resources to extend the learning back at school – including Mackintosh-style stencilling
  • Network with fellow teachers and share ideas over a cake and cup of tea (of course!)
Why attend?
  • Discover a ready-to-book experience that engages learners with local heritage and Scottish identity
  • See first-hand how Living History can boost confidence, critical thinking and creativity in your classroom
  • Leave with practical takeaways and inspiration for topic work, interdisciplinary learning, and more

Whether you’re planning a class visit, building a topic around Victorian Scotland, or just keen to try something new, this is a fun, relaxed way to learn more and get inspired.

Places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
