Description
Photograph of Burns Cottage decorated with flowers for Bicentenary celebration of Burns death 1996.
The photograph re-enacts the scene photographed exactly 100 years earlier on the 100th anniversary of the Poet's death when a similarly garlanded Cottage provided the occasion for a visit by the Poet's granddaughters.
This photograph shows the Cottage on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death of the poet Robert Burns in 1796. The exterior of the Cottage was festooned with garlands of flowers containing around 10,000 blooms including 1,000 red roses.
On the 21st July, 1996, the Poet's great great grandson, Richard Gowring was guest of honour at the commemorative ceremony held to mark the occasion.
