Description
Full length plaster 12 inch statue of Robert Burns. White, with a stamp on the rear 'H.S. Gamley RSA, 1928'.
This small plaster statue of Robert Burns is a copy of the original bronze sculpted by Henry Snell Gamley (1865-1928) which was erected in Cheyenne, Wyoming in November 1929. Commissioned by an Ayrshire born widow of an American cattle rancher.
Henry Snell Gamley had been a pupil of DW Stevenson and became a leading Scottish bronze sculptor involved in another Burns related sculpture, the memorial to Clarinda in Canongate churchyard, Edinburgh unveiled in 1922.
