Seabirds and the marine ecosystem

Although seabirds return to land to breed, most of them obtain nearly all of their food from the sea and spend the bulk of the year away from land.

They are therefore part of the marine ecosystem and their fate is closely linked to it. We can learn much about the health of the sea by studying the success of seabird breeding colonies.
