At the beginning of the 18th century, Kilbarchan weavers specialised in weaving linen, but as time went by, with the new cotton mills, the weavers decided to diversify their trade into silk and later into Tartan.

The Weaver’s Cottage has a collection of tartan samples meticulously crafted by Willie Meikle, one of the last weavers in the village. Each tartan, with its distinct thread count and vibrant colours, is a testament to his skill. Perhaps, you might even discover your family tartan among them?

All the tartan samples have been labelled by hand, and some bear his personal notes of when they were woven.
