Thomas Carlyle’s Birthplace features a tribute gifted to Carlyle in 1875 for his milestone 80th birthday. The tribute is hand-signed by many Victorian political, literary and academic figures, including Charles Darwin and Lord Tennyson. Highlighting the fame and respect for Carlyle amongst the most prominent figures of the time, the tribute is on permanent display in the property with a transcription of the signatories.
