From the north or south take the turn-off for Brechin (from the south ignore Dun turn-off signage). In Brechin either follow the brown tourist signs or signs for Montrose.
House of Dun will be found on the left, 6 miles from Brechin (ignore the sat nav as this takes you to the back gate).

Entry to the house is by guided tour only. The first tour is at 10.45 and the last tour is at 14.45. We advise pre-booking by calling us on 01674 810264.

Please note that entry to the house is by guided tour only, running every 45 minutes.

Facilities & access
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. We have created a detailed Accessibility Guide for House of Dun to assist with your visit.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
There are five disabled parking spaces at the entrance to the café and visitor reception. There’s also a disabled space in the main car park.
All carers accompanying disabled visitors are given free entry to the house.
There are accessible toilets in the Courtyard.
- The gardens are suitable for buggies.
- The wider estate has several paths which are accessible and there is level access by farm track to Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, with a grass path to the bird hide (1.25 miles).
Enjoy a light lunch or snack in our Erskine’s or Violet’s café.
There are quizzes for children in the house.
Dogs are very welcome on the estate and in the café.
Dog bowls and biscuits are available at the café and in the courtyard.
There are some areas where dogs need to be kept on a lead (signposted).
The house is open by appointment at any time for groups of 12 or more.

Booking a holiday with the National Trust for Scotland helps us to protect these places, now and for the future.
The car park is located 3 minutes’ walk from the main house.
Parking is free for members of the National Trust for Scotland. Pay & Display charges apply otherwise.
There are picnic areas in the Courtyard and in the grounds.
There’s a play park in the grounds.
Our shop is set in the original stables and offers a wide range of gifts as well as bespoke House of Dun souvenirs.
Various walks can be enjoyed within the grounds and of course at Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, which is part of the wider estate. Look out for red squirrels, otters, badgers, buzzards, roe deer and, if you’re lucky, maybe ospreys.
- A wheelchair is available for use in the café.
- The basement of the house, excluding the kitchen, is accessible. The ground floor is reached via a stair lift.
- The first floor is not wheelchair accessible.
- The gardens are suitable for wheelchairs.
