Harmony House was built circa 1807 by Robert Waugh (1754–1852), a local joiner who made his money in Jamaica from a lime and pimento plantation. He returned to Melrose to retire and became a reclusive figure, known locally as ‘Melancholy Jacques’. Harmony House, later owned by five generations of the Curle family, was inherited by Mrs Christine Pitman and bequeathed to the Trust in 1996.
Now holiday accommodation, Harmony House is an elegant abode, perfect for bringing everyone together for a trip to the Scottish Borders, with plenty of country walks, riverside rambles and local history to explore.
