Marvel at the beauty of our formal garden designed by celebrated artist, horticultural writer and garden designer Percy Cane.

Having been used for growing potatoes during the second world war, Cane was invited to reinterpret the formal garden surrounding the palace. With little surviving historic evidence to work from, Cane created a 20th-century design that is widely acknowledged as outstanding for both its historic value and as a work of art.

Falkland Palace Garden is the most complete example of Cane’s work in Scotland, and one of the few remaining examples of his landscape designs in Britain. Our dedicated garden team are currently working to revive Cane’s original planting, returning the formal gardens to their former splendour.

Visit in the summer months to see the spectacular herbaceous beds and borders. Remember to also stop by the shop before you leave in order to peruse the large selection of plants grown on site, an opportunity to take a piece of Falkland home with you!
