Fair Isle Airfield is operated as a licensed airfield under the legislation of the Civil Aviation Authority.

This brings with it an annual inspection and a requirement to meet onerous regulations, which govern all airfield operations.

The National Trust for Scotland employs the Fire & Rescue team to support the airfield operation.

The National Trust for Scotland aims to achieve its objective to maintain the current communication and transportation links to the island for the community and underpin its sustainability as the most remote community in the British Isles.
