Upstairs hall

‘Sederunt for July 4th (1781). Robert Burns in Lochly was entered as an Apprentice. Joph. Norma, M.’, is an entry from the minute book of Lodge St David, Tarbolton, for the date mentioned. It details Burns’s entry into Freemasonry. At the time, Lodge St David used the upstairs hall (its owner, John Richard, being a member of the lodge). Therefore, we can assume that Burns was initiated into Freemasonry in this space.
