Halloween family recipe: ’mummy’ apples
On this page:
What you’ll need
- Apples
- Milk chocolate
- White chocolate
- Reusable straws (or lollipop sticks)
- Edible eyes
- Greaseproof paper
- Baking tray (or a large plate)
Did you know?
Apples float! This makes them great for playing a Halloween game called dooking for apples. All you need to do is fill a basin with water and add some apples. Then, with a fork in your mouth and your hands behind your back, drop the fork and try to spear an apple. It’s tricky but very fun!
Method
Step 1
Break your bar of milk chocolate into pieces and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, or until the chocolate is melted and can be stirred.
Step 2
Slice your apples into discs and push your reusable straw or lollipop stick into the bottom of each one. Cover your apple discs with the melted chocolate.
Step 3
Once all your discs are fully covered, place them on a baking tray (or plate) lined with greaseproof paper and pop them in the fridge to cool.
Step 4
Break your bar of white chocolate into pieces and place it in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, or until the chocolate is melted and can be stirred.
Step 5
Remove the apple discs from the fridge and use a spoon to drizzle the white chocolate over each one, creating a mummy design. Place two edible eyes on each apple and return them to the fridge for an hour to set. Enjoy your delicious treat!
Top tip
If you can’t wait to tuck into your apple mummies, chop your leftover apples into apple chips and use the remaining melted chocolate as a dip. Yummy!
