Discovering the magnificent Culzean Castle

Watch the Miller family’s Culzean Castle vlog.
We invited four of Scotland’s most influential family bloggers to enjoy everything Culzean Castle has to offer.

Perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, the beautiful Culzean Castle has acres of parks, beaches, gardens and grandeur just waiting to be discovered by family nature lovers and adventurers alike.

With so much to explore, visitors often get just a small taste of what’s on offer at Culzean Castle. That’s why we invited some of Scotland’s most influential families to show us how it’s done.

The group kicked off their visit in the Home Farm Courtyard before being whisked down to the Deer Park by the property’s on-site transport. After feeding the resident deer and llamas, and a few impromptu games of hide and seek, they followed the trail to the magical Walled Garden to hunt for the Gruffalo.

A tour of the spectacular Culzean Castle followed, with the littlest visitors enjoying the Lego trail before sampling afternoon tea in the castle’s restaurant, Fo’c’sle.

To finish off, it was family fun time in the Adventure Cove and Wild Woodland play parks before enjoying an ice-cream from the Swan Pond’s ice cream parlour.

But what did they love most?

We’re the Millers

Natalie, her husband David and boys Caleb and Blake are a family from Glasgow who regularly vlog, recommending top days out to like-minded families. Their top tip: ‘Visit the llamas – they’re bonkers. Such a hilarious addition to the park.’

Raimonda Days

Raimonda and her children Oscar and Melissa had a great day. She said: ‘Culzean Castle is a paradise for kids – and we only covered about half of it. We’re already planning another day out there during the summer holidays. If you’re having a staycation or coming up to Scotland this summer, it’s definitely a place to go!’

Life With Mrs B

Paula, Thomas and their children Sky, Argyll and Oban are National Trust for Scotland members and have been to Culzean Castle before, but there’s always something new to discover.

‘We’ve never done the Gruffalo Trail, which was so much fun. The walled gardens are so beautiful and we loved our little adventure to find the Gruffalo hidden in there while being surrounded by such fabulous plants and flowers.

‘We also visited the Fo’c’sle restaurant for the first time. The views across to the Isle of Arran are out of this world! Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious and was such a nice addition to the day and a first for the kids.’

Glasgow With Kids

Lyn Stevenson is one of Glasgow’s most popular mummy bloggers, and is forever recommending great days out for families to enjoy within driving distance of the city.

‘Culzean Country Park is one of my favourite places for a day trip. We usually head here for the play park because it’s the best we’ve found anywhere. One half is a huge fort with lots of slides coming down into the centre from the fort walls. There are loads of bits to climb up and inside the fort walls there are secret ladders and tunnels and slides to explore. There’s a big sand pit, a pirate ship area for little kids, swings, zip slide, adventure play bits, musical toys ... you name it, it’s here.’
