Description

A print after the Alexander Nasmyth portrait of Robert Burns, bust length within an oval medallion with 'Robert Burns' written on it. Tinted and framed in wooden frame with white mount.

The picture Robert Burns painted in the style of Alexander Nasmyth, original of which appears in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. Burns sat for this portrait for Nasmyth in Edinburgh in 1787 and is said by many to have been the only true likeness of the Poet that was ever reproduced.

The picture was originally commissioned to illustrate the Edinburgh edition of the Poets' works; however it was never used for this purpose.
