Many of our properties are renowned for their fine collections of paintings, antique furniture, silver or ceramics. Broughton House in Kirkcudbright, home of artist E A Hornel, is a shrine to one of Scotland’s most original artists, and for one Trust member a favourite place to visit. As she explained to us, it is Hornel’s important collection of oriental blue and white china, library of works by and about Burns, and the valuable archive on the work of the ‘Glasgow Boys’ that draw her to the place. So much so that this particular member has left the Trust a generous legacy to help fund ongoing conservation work on the Broughton House collection. It is a huge programme and we are very grateful for her kindness in helping us to conserve Hornel’s collection for the future.
