Welcome to the National Trust for Scotland’s web pages for Teachers.

This section contains practical information about class visits to Trust sites – including planning your visit, and free resources for curriculum-based work. All learning materials are compatible with the Curriculum for Excellence.
If you are unable to visit our sites, many of the free resources are still useful for classroom and course work.

In addition, you can download free images – which can be used for learning materials and whiteboards.

If you wish to take out schools membership of The National Trust for Scotland, you can do so here. The cost of
membership depends on the size of your school but it can cut the cost of your visits, with free entry to sites (except for Culloden) and reduced charges for learning programmes. Don’t forget to check whether you can get a travel subsidy too.

The Trust sometimes works with teachers, as part of their CPD, developing ideas or curriculum-based materials, at
particular sites.

The Trust cares for over 100 historic sites, from cottages to castles to countryside. Many have international or national status – for instance, they are Grade 1 listed buildings or National Nature Reserves. If you would like to find out more about them, then go to Places to Visit.

Each year, the Trust runs several big Learning Events which include learners of all ages. Many school pupils take part. The events are all connected to our sites but can have an extra dimension. Crime Writer's Competition
Check out the exciting Schools Competition, called Unsolved,
for budding mystery novelists in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire.
This is for 5th and 6th Year school pupils.
