Avoiding unintended but serious consequences.
The Scottish Government is consulting on merging Historic Scotland and the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments (RCAHMS) into a single new body with charitable status.
While welcoming the broad thrust of the proposal, the Trust has genuine concerns that, if there is not a level playing field in terms of regulation, taxation and promotion, the new body might unintentionally but irretrievably damage the voluntary and private providers that do so much to care for Scotland’s heritage.
You can read about some of the issues of concern in our special Briefing Note at www.nts.org.uk/about/downloads/briefing_paper_2_hs-rcahms_merger.pdf
and you can help us respond to the official consultation by e-mailing your own thoughts to us at email@example.com
