The orchard

Once part of the abbey grounds, possibly part of the kitchen garden used by the monks (no evidence), the orchard has existed since the mid-to-late Victorian era. James Curle, a passionate gardener, records having apple trees such as Peasgood Nonsuch and pear trees such as Winter Nelis. The oldest tree is a Bramley, believed to date back to the mid-to-late 1800s. Other trees were planted circa 1975, with an emphasis on introducing more local apple varieties from the region.
