Getting here
From the A849, take the signposted scenic route to Salen (B8035). Turn left at Tiroran, following signs to Burg. At the end of the tarmac road, pass through two gates and continue along the track to reach our car park.
The grid reference for the car park is NM477275.
Planning your visit
Burg is open all year round. It’s a remote and spectacular area of coastal countryside with no visitor facilities and a long walk in from the parking area.
There are grazing livestock at this site, so please keep your dog under close control and let the animals have some space. Thank you for showing consideration for the safety of our livestock and wildlife.
Burg paths have been filmed on Google Streetview Treks, where you can view the terrain in advance of your visit.
Please see our drop-down Facilities below for helpful information about planning your visit. For more information about planning your visit, please see our frequently asked questions.
Accessibility
- The 5-mile coastal path from the car park to the fossil tree is rough and not advisable for wheelchairs.
We have an ongoing programme of accessible content development. Detailed accessibility guides for the most visited Trust places are available on our Accessibility pages as well as links to useful resources.
We’d love you to visit the Euan’s Guide website to review the accessibility of Trust places and tell us (and others) what’s good and where we need to do better.
