Culzean Castle & Country Park Photography Competition – Terms & Conditions

Entering the competition

1. The Culzean Castle & Country Park Photography Competition (the ‘Competition’) is open to anyone living in the UK (‘you’).

2. To enter the Competition, you must submit an original photograph taken within the grounds of Culzean Castle & Country Park that reflects the beauty, character or spirit of the site.

3. You can enter the Competition by emailing your photograph to culzean@nts.org.uk with:

  • your full name
  • your town or city of residence
  • confirmation that the photograph is your own original work

If you are under 18, you must also include the name and contact details of a parent or legal guardian.

4. Images must be:

  • portrait orientation (suitable for a printed guidebook cover size of approx. 228mm tall by 158mm wide)
  • high resolution (minimum 300dpi)
  • not AI-generated, filtered, or heavily edited

5. By entering, you confirm that the image is your own original work, that you own the copyright, and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party.

6. You may submit multiple images for consideration. Entries must be received by Sunday 8 February 2026.

7. Entrants are responsible for all costs associated with submitting their entry.

8. Employees or agents of the National Trust for Scotland (‘the Trust’, ‘we’/‘us’), its group companies or their immediate family members may not enter the Competition.

Selecting the winner

9. A judging panel – made up of representatives from Culzean Castle & Country Park, the National Trust for Scotland’s Retail team and the Trust’s appointed guidebook designers – will select one winning image to be used on the front cover of the forthcoming Culzean guidebook.

10. The decision of the panel is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

11. The winning entrant will be notified by email by Friday 20 February 2026, using the contact details provided.

Use of image and rights

12. By emailing your photograph to us, you confirm that the image is your own original work, that you own the copyright, and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party. You also grant the National Trust for Scotland permission to review your image for the purposes of this competition.

13. You also give the Trust permission to use your name, age (if under 18), and town or city of residence to credit you as the photographer in any communications relating to the competition.

14. If your image is selected as the winning photograph, you will be required to sign a formal assignation of rights, transferring full ownership of the image to the National Trust for Scotland. This will include a waiver of your moral rights in the image and will require a wet signature. Once assigned, the image may be used by the Trust exclusively in connection with the Culzean Castle & Country Park guidebook, and the photographer will no longer retain any rights to use or license the image elsewhere.

15. A payment will be made to the winning photographer in recognition of the full transfer of ownership. The amount will be confirmed privately with the selected entrant following notification.

16. If the winner is under 18, written consent and the signed assignation of rights must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

17. If any identifiable people – including children – appear in the submitted image, you must have written permission from each person featured (or from a parent or legal guardian if under 18). This written consent may be requested before the image can be considered for use.

Other conditions

18. The Trust accepts no responsibility for entries that are incomplete, corrupted, or fail to reach us for any reason.

19. No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition.

20. The Trust may withdraw, suspend or amend the Competition at any time without notice. The decision of the Trust in all matters is final.

21. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions shall limit the Trust’s liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

22. The Competition is governed by Scots law.
