Wise women create Inverewe audio experience

A bespoke audio experience to accompany a walk around Inverewe has been created as part of a new exhibition at the Wester Ross garden.

Part of the Wise Women and the Earth exhibition, which launched on 14 September, the Songlines recording draws on the tradition of stories and folklore to take visitors on a tour of the garden, evoking its natural and cultural history with poetry, song and spoken word.

This new exhibition features the work of six female artists who have explored themes relating to nature, the outdoors and the environment based on their experiences at Inverewe, the award-winning garden on the banks of Loch Ewe.

The featured artists - Ann Coomber, Lynn Bennet-Mackenzie, Dorje-Khandro David, Mandy Haggith, Joanne B Kaar, and Katherine Sutherland - have worked in a variety of mediums to create work that responds to the emotional engagement they have had with the environment, the history and community found at Inverewe.

“This exhibition and the audio guide is the result of a very exciting collaborative exhibition by some incredibly talented and diverse artists.”
Kevin Frediani, Operations Manager at Inverewe

Kevin continues: ‘We are so proud that Inverewe has provided such a rich seam of inspiration for them and the work we’re showcasing is completely steeped in their experience of one of Scotland’s national and natural treasures.’

The Wise Women and the Earth exhibition runs from Saturday 14 September until Thursday 31 October.

It’s the latest exhibition to feature in the Sawyer Gallery in Inverewe House, located at the centre of the world-famous Inverewe Garden - a lush oasis perched on a peninsula at the shores of Loch Ewe amid the rugged landscape of Wester Ross.
