Morton Writing Competition / Farpais Sgrìobhaidh Mhorton

Written by Lily Barnes, Morton Documentation and Digitisation Officer
Banner of four different images: Kellie Castle tower; two girls; cat and crayfish; small boy in front of wall
We’d like you to write a short story or poem inspired by one of these four photographs from our historical collections. Tha sinn ag iarraidh gun sgrìobh thu sgeulachd ghoirid no pìos bàrdachd a’ togail air tè de na dealbhan seo às ar tasglann eachdraidheil.

Feeling creative? We’re looking for writers of all ages to send us their short stories or poems in response to one of these four images. You’re welcome to use the historical context of each image as further inspiration, or to ignore it completely and create something based purely on the photograph of your choice. We welcome both poetry and prose submissions, and you can write in Gaelic, English or Scots depending on your preference.

First prize in each category is an annual family membership to the National Trust for Scotland. Runners-up will receive a selection of books in their language of entry, which will be appropriate to their age range.

The competition closes on 1 June 2019.

All entries must be accompanied by a cover sheet, which you can download here. Please read the rules of the competition below before submitting your entry. Read the full Terms & Conditions.

If you have any questions or would like to submit an entry, please email mortonwritingcomp@nts.org.uk

A’ faireachdainn cruthachail? Tha sinn ag iarraidh air sgrìobhadairean de dh’aois sam bith sgeulachdan goirid no pìosan bàrdachd a chur thugainn mar fhreagairt air tè de na dealbhan seo. Dh’fhaodadh co-theacsa eachdraidheil na deilbh brosnachadh a thoirt dhut, no dh’fhaodadh tu rudeigin a chruthachadh stèidhichte air an deilbh fhèin. Cuiridh sinn fàilte air an dà chuid bàrdachd agus rosg, agus faodaidh tu sgrìobhadh ann an Gàidhlig, Beurla no Scots a rèir do roghainn fhèin.

Is e a’ phrìomh dhuais anns gach roinn den fharpais ballrachd-teaghlaich aon-bhliadhna airson Urras Nàiseanta na h-Alba. Gheibh an fheadhainn san dàrna agus san treas àite taghadh de leabhraichean sa chànan san do sgrìobh iad, a bhios freagarrach airson an aois.

Tha an fharpais a’ dùnadh 1 Ògmhìos 2019.

Feumaidh duilleag-aghaidh, ri lorg an seo, a bhith an cois a h-uile tagradh. Dèan cinnteach gun leugh thu riaghailtean na farpais, gu h-ìosal, mus cuir thu do thagradh a-steach.
