Robert Smail's Printing Works - Tour and workshop

Wednesday 14 September, 9.30am-2pm, High St, Innerleithen, Peeblesshire EH44 6HA

Meet at the Georgian House and a minibus will take us to Smail’s Printing Works for a real hands-on experience of typing the old-fashioned way.

The morning workshop will be followed by lunch.

Keeping Traditional Skills Alive at the Trust - Stonemasons and Crofters

October (Date and Time TBC) – provisional date October 6th, 6-8pm, Newhailes, Newhailes Road, Musselburgh, East Lothian EH21 6RY

An opportunity to hear from some of the masters in traditional skills at the Trust: some of our Crofters and Stonemasons will demonstrate the intricacies of the highly skilled work they carry out, and talk about how the Trust helps keeps these skills alive for the future.

The Culzean Apprentices - 'Making Their Mark'

Thursday 17 September, 10am-4pm, Culzean Castle, Maybole, South Ayrshire KA19 8LE

Private tour of Culzean and Stonemason's yard.

The Stonemason team at Culzean has grown, having just gained two new apprentices in January this year. They will take Wemyss Circle participants on a behind-the-scenes tour of the stone yard, with demonstrations of the highly skilled work they do. The morning will be followed by lunch, and a private tour of the Castle. Spaces are limited, so book early!

'And so to bed' - a conservation workshop

As Newhailes is “put to bed” for the closed season, NTS Conservator, Pat Wigston, will be showing Wemysss Circle participants top tips used by the team on how to protect your treasures from the rigours of Scottish winter. Lunch will be provided, following the workshop.
