Support Scotland's heritage by giving now to the National Trust for Scotland

at Crathes and Drum, Aberdeenshire

The Big Draw is part of a national campaign to encourage people to draw and paint. For more information click here.

Several NTS places run Big Draw events each year. At Crathes Castle, inspiration was taken from the beautiful 16th century painted ceilings. Each participant created their own work of art.

At Drum Castle, families imagined the South Lawn gardens – as they may have looked in historic times. Artist Kelly Shankland worked with the participants using natural materials found in the garden. From feedback, everyone enjoyed creating images on a large blank board without having to “colour in”. It was the first time many had experienced using non-conventional tools.
