Lady Jean Kennedy’s Will

Dated February 1751

Has the following bequests:
To her second son, David, she leaves all her estate
To her eldest son, Sir Thomas, she leaves £40 sterling
To her daughter, Anne, she leaves 20 guineas.
To her daughter Clementina, she leaves 20 guineas
To her granddaughters, Grizell, Catherine and Elizabeth Cathcart, she leaves £40 sterling

Lastly:
"I leave and bequest to Scipio Kennedy my old servant the sum of ten pounds sterling."

Scipio Kennedy's Grave - in Kirkoswald Churchyard, Ayrshire (the old kirk)


Inscription on gravestone:
"This stone is erected by Douglas Kennedy in Memory of his Father Scipio Kennedy who died June 24 1774. Aged 80 years. Also here lieth the body of said Douglas Kennedy who died July 21 1781. Aged 49 years"

On other side of gravestone:
"Jean Ballantine, spouse of Douglas Kennedy, died 14th. December 1818. Aged 85 years"

Site of gravestone:
As you enter the auld kirkyard, go to the group of trees in the left corner - the gravestone is to right of and just beyond trees.
