Welcome to Gardens

The National Trust for Scotland cares for just under 70 gardens and designed landscapes, 35 of which are classified as major gardens whilst the remainder are smaller gardens associated with museum properties or amenity landscape sites. Almost every style of Scottish garden history is represented - from late medieval to modern creations in older settings.

With more than 283 hectares under intensive cultivation, supporting over 13,500 different taxa (species and cultivars) of plants, our gardens are internationally renowned for their historical and horticultural significance. Geographical and climatic diversity, such as the effects of the North Atlantic Drift or Gulf Stream's effect on west coast gardens, provides favourable conditions for the growth of remarkable, and often unique, collections of plants.

As Scotland's largest garden owner and second only in the UK to the National Trust, we are proud to present the very best in Scottish horticultural heritage as places to visit and enjoy and where the art-and-craft of traditional gardening is practiced and passed on to the next generation of gardeners. Our gardens also play host to events, lectures, conferences, musical performances and much more throughout the year, offering many ways to enjoy these gems and celebrate Scotland's garden heritage.
