The Head of Building Surveying (Operations)(HBSS) has a national remit, leading and managing the Building Surveying team, and reports to the Head of Commercial Enterprises & Estates. Together, these roles agree the most effective way of servicing client group needs, driven by their plans, through the team of Building Surveyors.

Lead, manage and develop the team of regionally located Building Surveyors, HQ based Buildings Administrator and any other direct reports which may change from time to time.

Responsibility for effective management of national/regional projects/contracts of significance (eg Annual Repair Grant works, Facilities Management contract).

Organise Building Surveying team to best suit the demands of the client groups, and to develop, manage, and monitor delivery of work-plans arising from property planning processes.

Act as the conduit between the Head of Buildings Conservation (Policy) (who oversees NTS general philosophy/standards for buildings conservation) and the Surveyor team to ensure that buildings/ structure works are compliant with legislation and Trust standards in their planning and delivery.

Act as principle interface between NTS and Historic Environment Scotland (HES) in relation to Annual Repair Grant (ARG) and interface with all other relevant external stakeholders/national bodies.

Ensure effective relationships and liaison where relevant between Building Surveying (Operations) and Regional Senior Management and relevant HQ teams (eg National Estates, H&S, Procurement).

As required (for own assigned portfolio where required and across the Surveyor team) monitor, manage, report and advise on buildings related maintenance and project budgets and expenditure, evaluating and advising on the financial implications and appropriate management actions.

The post-holder will provide specialist support, guidance and direction to the Head of Commercial Enterprises & Estates, in addition to the provision of advice where required, to regional operations management teams, with a view to assisting them in ensuring the Trust?s best practice within the built heritage environment.
