This role will lead a project to complete a rapid review and rationalisation of material collections stored at a commercial storage facility in Edinburgh. The project will reduce the quantity of material held in the store through a programme of provenance research, significance review and ethical disposal. This role requires someone with the drive to work independently and the confidence to make complex judgements and use written and verbal communication to influence and manage stakeholder relations. They must have a keen eye for detail and an interest in pursuing research using their knowledge of collections and the history of collections management at NTS. They must be able to inspire and encourage other colleagues to take an active role in the project as it develops. The project will require detailed desk research to determine provenance, valuations, and the terms of any gifts or bequests, including liaison with curators, registrars, property staff and other stakeholders. Many of the collections held at the store are not part of NTS permanent collections and were not collected with the intention of formally accessioning them into the collection, but some are significant to NTS, and some may be loans. The post-holder will development a risk management methodology to ensure that due diligence has been satisfied before completion of any disposal procedure.
