This role will report to the CFO & Director of Corporate Services. They will lead the finance function and ensure the requisite level of financial discipline and controls are applied across the Trust and be responsible for setting and delivering the finance strategy aligned to the Trust's strategic plan and business objectives. The FD will deputise for the CFO where required at ExCo, Board, Audit & Risk & Investment Committee meetings providing strategic and tactical financial leadership. They will provide financial guidance to the organisation and be focused on streamlining and simplifying processes, in an area that has been resistant to progression. They will drive, influence and manage a controlled and efficient finance function, to deliver accurate financial results and working with the business to identify opportunities for margin improvement. They will provide financial leadership, governance and support as a senior finance business partner to the Trust.


Manage the timely communication of accurate monthly analytical reports including management accounts, variance analysis, forecasts and trends to ensure effective operation of the organisation within agreed annual budgets. Identifying risks and opportunities and consequential action required for the Trust to remain aligned to the medium term plan financially and operationally and strategically. Support the drive for improving financial performance by holding budget owners accountable. Financial Reporting will be required for a variety of audiences from regional/property managers, ExCo, Board and sub committees and messaging needs to be tailored for each particular audience

Build and develop effective relationships with the key external and internal stakeholders including internal & external auditors, Board and subcommittee member. Manage the relationship with auditors and bankers and be the primary point of contact.

Ensure the completion of annual operating and strategic plans and budgets in collaboration with senior management in line with the Trusts Strategic objectives. Produce annual budgets and 5 year financial plans with scenario planning for presentation and approval by the Board of Trustees.

Provide insightful financial analysis and management information on the on-going and future financial performance of the business to ensure management can optimise decision making. Influence and drive financial efficiencies through sharing insightful analytics and KPIs ensuring that Charity Funds are used and safeguarded in accordance with regulations.

Ensure that information required for external publication is accurately reflected and provided in a timely manner ensuring financial statements achieve clean audit reports

Ensure risks within the finance function and all financial risks across the Trust are identified and managed through the Trust Risk Framework. Ensure effective controls are in place to mitigate these risks to a level acceptable within the Framework and that controls are completed and evidenced in a timely way. Influence and manage financial risk through a thorough understanding of the activities across the Trust. Drive, influence and manage solutions to minimise financial and commercial risk on contracts and improve efficiency, profitability and cash flow. Provide appropriate analysis and recommendations to influence decision making process. Provide proactive leadership in creating an effective, robust and governance compliant controls and process environment.

Provide leadership in the development and implementation of documented and approved financial and accounting policies and ensure these are maintained to reflect operational practices in a timely way and that these are accurate included with the Financial Statements of the Trust.

Build a robust people plan including skills uplift and succession planning. Grow and develop the capability of your team to develop a high caliber dynamic team, recognised and utilised throughout the business as value added business partner. Lead, motivate and manage the finance function, with responsibility for hiring decisions, training and development and appraisals of this team. Demonstrate leadership through delegation, motivation and trust empowering the team and enabling and ensuring they are accountable.

Create and drive process improvement programmes aligned with strategic programmes to aid operational and financial efficiencies.
