The properties owned and managed by the National
Trust for Scotland include many sites that have been designated
as being of national or international importance. These include
Scotland's first, and only natural, World Heritage Site (St Kilda),
three Ramsar sites, designated for their wetland interest, parts
or all of seven National Nature Reserves, 12 Special Protection
Areas for Birds, 16 Special Areas of Conservation and 44 Sites of
Special Scientific Interest. In addition, NTS properties lie at
the heart of both of the new National Parks and 24 properties fall
within National Scenic Areas. |
