The Trust contributes
to a wide range of consultation exercises on issues that are likely
to impact upon Scotland's heritage and the Trust's diverse areas
of interest and responsibility. The Trust regularly responds to
consultations issued by the Scottish Executive, Parliamentary
Committees and other agencies and organisations. As an organisation
the Trust seeks to engage in the national policy debate and to
inform the development of legislation in Scotland.Part of this is raising awareness of heritage issues on the political stage. The Trust has therefore produced a Policy Manifesto for the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary Elections, calling for action on 6 specific heritage issues.
The Trust also works with other organisations
such as the umbrella body for environmental Non Governmental Organisations,
Scottish Environment Link (LINK), to develop and promote its views
on policy issues. Further information can be found on the LINK
website. A current LINK campaign that the Trust is supporting
is the 'Everyone'; campaign, initially designed to draw voter's
attention to environmental concerns prior to the Scottish Parliament
elections in May 2007. For more information have a look at www.everyonecan.org.
The Trust also works with the Built
Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS), a similar umbrella group
for organisations working on the built environment which was formed
in early 2003.
The Trust has recently joined Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, a coalition of civil society groups and organisations working together to bring about action on climate change. Stop Climate Chaos also runs a public campaign 'I Count' for anyone who is concerned about climate change to participate in.
The Trust has recently signed a concordat with
Historic Scotland to formalise the close relationship between
the two organisations. Click on Historic
Scotland concordat to read this in full.
