The National
Trust for Scotland’s portfolio of 129 properties includes
some of the finest elements of Scotland`s architectural heritage.
These are just some of the buildings in our care:
- Great castles and country houses such as
Craigievar
Castle in Aberdeenshire and Newhailes
in East Lothian
- Vernacular structures such as Beaton’s
Croft House, Bornesketaig on Skye
- Properties associated with famous Scots
such as the Bachelor’s
Club where Robert Burns and his friends hotly debated topics
of the day, and Hugh
Miller’s birthplace
Our approach to building conservation takes
into account the special character and location of the buildings,
which are often found within important historic and natural settings.
We strive to manage our buildings in a way that
is sensitive to the existing built fabric and surroundings, follows
good conservation practice, and promotes their continued use and
enjoyment by the public.
The Trust is grateful to Historic
Scotland for funding the maintenance on some of our buildings
of outstanding importance through the Annual Repair Grants scheme
and the Historic Buildings Maintenance Fund.
