Outdoor Conservation Volunteering

Everyone has heard of it, everyone has an opinion on it but not everyone knows exactly what it is. Now the National Trust for Scotland has become part of this growing, enigmatic internet phenomenon. Yes, Twitter.

Twitter is a free social networking and micoblogging service which has grown in popularity over the last year. It provides quick broadcast updates and interactive information sharing in the form of ‘tweets’, a great way to keep up to date with current news and events. You can follow individuals, friends and organisations via Twitter, while they in turn keep up to date with what you’re doing.

Robert Shepherd, our internet savvy Communications Volunteer, recently launched the Trust’s very own Twitter page which provides regular posts on Trust news stories and events. Starting the tweets off was Trust Ambassador Alan Cumming of X-Men fame. The famous A-Lister ‘tweeted’: ‘Alan Cumming, new Trust ambassador here! I am wearing my special sash and munching Ferrero Rocher (that I always have at my parties).’

The site has proven to be a great success, with more than 500 followers. Volunteers can find out what is happening by giving us a call, dropping an email or sending in a ‘tweet’!
