the National Trust for Scotland Volunteering

Help bring our properties to life! Many of our historic buildings would simply not be open to the public without the enthusiasm and support of our property volunteers across the country.

Guiding in the properties is a rewarding and very sociable experience. Where else would you get to see behind the scenes at some of Scotland's most famous landmarks and meet people from all over the world?

Whether you are retired, starting out in your career or simply just interested in history, the Trust offers all sorts of opportunities for you to become involved in the running of your favourite property.

Each property, just like each volunteer, is unique, and roles vary depending on where you are and what you're interested in.

Volunteers in properties are sometimes involved in other roles as well. This can range from Membership Recruitment, to helping out in a tearoom, and everything in between.

We're also on the lookout for education guides at different times of the year. Many of our properties are incredibly popular with schools and families; a treat for them and a wonderful way to help pass on our history to future generations.

Our Education Guides are normally disclosure checked and have had previous experience in dealing with large groups of children, or children's events. Patience, enthusiasm and imagination are also key qualities for education guiding.

By becoming a property volunteer, you will learn about the history of your chosen property, meet new friends and learn new skills. You'll have the excitement of passing Scotland's stories on to other people and the knowledge that you are contributing to the preservation and promotion of our heritage.

If any of these volunteering positions are of interest to you please have a look at our current opportunities page to see if there is anything in your area, or register for updates.
