“I am delighted to endorse the Sole Trading upland footpath appeal launched
by the National Trust for Scotland. On its upland properties, the Trust has
shown exemplary ability to maintain mountain footpaths in a way that is
non-intrusive.
Here in Scotland we boast some of the finest mountain footpaths in Europe,
many of which were created by shepherds, stalkers and drovers. But these
paths are in serious decline, loved to death by the innocent pounding of hill
walkers’ boots.
Footpath maintenance is not cheap, calling on a high level of skill,
commitment and physical hard work from those who take on the essential
task of repair. I hope you will consider contributing to the appeal, and thereby
help maintain what is part of our mountain heritage.”
