Exhibition: The Nyangwe Diary- Shining New Light on LivingstoneDavid Livingstone CentreWed 20 Mar - Mon 23 DecAn exhibition of never before seen diary entries from Livingstone’s journeys in Nyangwe, 1871
By 1871 Livingstone had run out of writing paper and ink for his diary, so he improvised by writing over a newspaper with ink made from berries. The resulting text was almost completely illegible and only now, thanks to spectral imaging technology, can it finally be revealed. The diary covers an important period of Livingstone's life, and includes a horrifying eye-witness account of a village massacre by Arab slave traders.

Exhibition: You Took The Part That Was Once My HeartDavid Livingstone CentreSat 4 May - Fri 7 JunA beautiful exhibition of wooden objects and tree fragments relating to the Livingstone story.
The mvula tree under which Livingstone's heart was buried was later felled and pieces were given away or even sold as souvenirs.
Dutch artists Sybren Renema and Timmy van Zoelen present this thoughtful display of wooden objects and tree fragments drawn from the collection at the David Livingstone Centre.

Southside Film Festival - Gosford ParkPollok HouseSun 19 Mayjoin us for a unique cinematic and culinary experience in the beautiful surroundings of Pollok House, one of Scotland’s grandest Edwardian country houses. Southside Film Festival, in partnership with National Trust Scotland, are delighted to present Gosford Park a 1930’s ‘whodunit’ starring Stephen Fry, Maggie Smith and Glasgow’s own Kelly MacDonald. We follow the upstairs guests and their downstairs servants at a country house weekend shooting party where a series of illicit trysts and dodgy business deals culminate in murder. From 5.30pm onwards enjoy a pre-film drink in the opulence of the Pavilion Library overlooking the gardens of the house, you will then be led through to the Dining Room for the screening at 6.15pm surrounded by the artwork and portraits of the Maxwell family. After the credits roll follow the double sweeping staircase downstairs to the servants’ quarters for a two course meal and glass of wine in the kitchen restaurant. Ticket price includes a two course meal (main and dessert) with a glass of wine and the film screening. The bar in the library is a paid bar. Dinner menu available at www.southsidefilmfestival.net. Death Was Our BedmateDavid Livingstone CentreSun 2 JunCampbell Thomson comes to discuss 'Death Was Our Bedmate', a book telling the story of Lanarkshire Yeomanry and their sufferings as Japanese POWs building the infamous Burma Railway.
The Lanarkshire Yeomanry saw constant action during the ill-fated Malayan Campaign of 1941-2, defending Singapore against impossible odds. Once taken as prisoners-of-war, the Gunners slaved and died working in camps throughout the Far East.
Campbell Thomson comes to tell a story that should never be forgotten.
All proceeds will go to the David Livingstone Centre.

Exhibition: The Scottish Encounter With Tropical DiseaseDavid Livingstone CentreDates between : Sat 8 Jun - Sun 16 JunAn exhibition inspired by David Livingstone's role as one of the first pioneers in the field of tropical medicine.
David Livingstone was one of the first Scottish pioneers in the field of tropical medicine: he developed a quinine-based treatment for malaria, known as 'Livingstone's Rousers'.
Professor Mike Barrett, University of Glasgow, will give a talk on this fascinating display at 14.00 on Saturday 15 June.

Schools Annual Wheelbarrow Garden CompetitionGreenbank GardenSat 15 Jun - Sun 16 JunA selection of wheelbarrow gardens produced by local schools on the theme of 'A Scottish Garden' will be on display on the lawns of greenbank garden.
For this year's competition the local schools have been asked to produce a garden in a wheelbarrow on the theme of 'A Scottish garden' to reflect this being the year of natural Scotland.
You are requested to attend and judge the entrants. There is a popular vote and all visitors this weekend have a vote with the winners being the wheelbarrow with the most votes.

NTS Conservation skills dayGreenbank GardenSun 23 JunCome and meet NTS experts and learn about how they are conserving Scotlands Heritage
For 1 day only we will have NTS surveyors talking about what it takes to maintain a grade A listed building.
An NTS conservator will be in Greenbank House and telling what it takes to look after the NTS interiors collection.
An NTS arcaeologist will be talking about the wider landscape.
The ranger from Ben Lomond will demonstrate how charcoal is made and will have some for sale.
The weaver from the Weavers Cottage in Kilbarchan will be demonstrating that trade.
A ranger from the National Bat Reserve at Threave Estate will be here with a travelling exhibition of the conservation work being undertaken there and the garden staff from Greenbank Garden will be on hand to talk about the NTS gardens.

Kilbarchan villagers are often called ‘Habbies’, after Habbie Simpson, a town piper from the 16th century whose statue is in a niche in the village steeple. Habbie is brought back to life during Lilias Day in a costume weaved by our resident weaver, Christine.
