Exhibition: The Nyangwe Diary- Shining New Light on Livingstone

Exhibition: The Nyangwe Diary- Shining New Light on Livingstone

David Livingstone Centre
Wed 20 Mar - Mon 23 Dec

An exhibition of never before seen diary entries from Livingstone’s journeys in Nyangwe, 1871

more details »

By 1871 Livingstone had run out of writing paper and ink for his diary, so he improvised by writing over a newspaper with ink made from berries. The resulting text was almost completely illegible and only now, thanks to spectral imaging technology, can it finally be revealed. The diary covers an important period of Livingstone's life, and includes a horrifying eye-witness account of a village massacre by Arab slave traders.

Costumed Interpretation at Pollok House In an innovative 3-year partnership with Pollok House, students from the HND Fashion Technology course at Cardonald College are in the process of creating period costumes for the House. This year they are creating Edwardian costumes which will be used in the house in live costumed interpretation from July 2013 and throughout the rest of the year. In 2014 the theme will be Mid-Victorian and next years’ students at Cardonald College will design and create the costumes for that period. The work they do in creating these costumes is an important part of their coursework.
