Scotland's Gardens Open DayInverewe Garden & EstateDates between : Wed 22 May - Wed 5 JunJoin Gardening Staff for guided walks, in support of Scotland’s Gardens, through Inverewe’s exotic and unforgettable garden.
This is a magnificent 54 acre Highland garden, surrounded by mountains, moorland and sea-loch.
It was created by Osgood Mackenzie in the late 19th century, a pioneer and plant collector. The garden now includes a wealth of exotic plants, from Australian tree ferns to Chinese rhododendrons to South African bulbs.
Warmed by the North Atlantic Drift, Inverewe cultivates plants from temperate rainforests and is a plantsman’s paradise. There are plants at Inverewe that cannot be found or grown anywhere else in the British Isles!
There is meandering woodland with dappled shade planting, a rock garden, ‘fossil trees’, a rhododendron walk (Inverewe is famous for over 2000 kinds flowering at different times of year), herbaceous borders, national plant collections and a spectacular walled kitchen garden built into the expansive curve of the raised beach.
This garden is constantly influenced by changes in weather. Its wider landscape holds diverse wildlife and spectacular views. There is always something new to see and enjoy season on season, year on year.
The Head Gardeners Walk on 22 May will focus on Woodland Gardening.
Meet at the Visitor Centre 2:00pm.
The Walk led by the First Gardener on 5 June will view some of the National Collection planting.
