Families should find lots to occupy them at the Tenement House. Children will enjoy playing with authentic household items from the handling table, working out what they were used for and taking quizzes around the house. See if they can also find the carpet beater and Izal toilet paper. Although it doesn’t look very soft it would have been better than the alternative – cut-up squares of newspaper.
Regular family activities and events are held here. Families can get creative and try their hand at designing their own ‘wally’ tiles or join us for monthly rag rug making workshops.
Why not buy a copy of our ‘Wee Guide’ from the shop? Packed with interesting nuggets of information and quizzes, it shows children what life would have been like in the Tenement House.
Did you know?
In the Hallway you can see a photograph taken in the 1920s of a company dinner held in London. Although Miss Toward is not in the photo she probably knew some of the attendees. Notice how dressy an affair it was!
