Art Exhibition - Carol WhitingThreave EstateMon 20 May - Sat 1 JunCarol began painting when she lived in Sheffield, after experimenting with various arts and crafts including flower arranging, pottery and decoupage.
She quickly discovered that painting was not only a wonderful outlet for her creativity, but also a constant challenge in which there is always something new to learn.
She retired in 2004, and moved with her husband to southern Scotland, since when she has been able to devote much more of her time to the art she loves.
A member of Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society, Carol enjoys experimenting with new styles and techniques which gives her work an unusual freshness and variety.
She paints in watercolour and acrylic, depending on the subject and the effect she wants to achieve, and especially loves painting the wonderful skies in landscapes and seascapes around Dumfries & Galloway.
While in Sheffield, she successfully exhibited at several prestige venues in Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, and in recent years her work has sold at numerous Galleries and Exhibitions all over Dumfries and Galloway.
Admission to this exhibition is free.

Jayne Durham - An IntroductionThreave EstateMon 17 Jun - Sat 29 JunArt Exhibition
Welcome to the first exhibition of Jayne Durham's art work. Jayne is a self taught artist. Although she has read many books on how to paint, she has also had a class with a local artist and has another planned in the future. She has always enjoyed drawing, however she has only been painting since 2011. Her choice of medium at the moment is acrylic paint on canvas although she has also used oil and some of the paintings are on board rather than canvas. She loves to paint landscapes, seascapes and flowers. She loves the natural beauty and vibrancy of nature and as such is very much inspired by her home county of Dumfries and Galloway.
She takes photos of places she visits and will use them to start her paintings and more often than not her imagination will then take over - as such she usually refers to her paintings as based on a place.
For this exhibition she has included paintings that mark the beginning of her journey - these paintings are for interest only due to the quality - these were the first original paintings she created. She has included them in the hope that others may see them and feel inspired to take up painting. When Jayne was first considering painting she browsed through many artists’ websites and one artist had done this (unfortunately she can’t remember their name to credit them). The difference between those first paintings and their present paintings was significant enough to give her the confidence to start painting. Although she doesn’t have the same amount of years passed between her first paintings and the present paintings the principle is the same - just start painting and, with practice, improvement will follow.
She has also left a comments book and would be grateful to hear your views on her paintings.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
